Dog grooming in Burlingtonone dog at a time

Claire Beaumont has groomed dogs for eighteen years and trained in Fear Free handling. Appointments run about two hours, in a room where your dog is the only one being worked on.

Eighteen years, one dog in the room at a time

Claire works alone, so your dog has her hands and her attention for the whole appointment. Nobody waits in a crate and no dryer is left running.

Senior dogs, anxious dogs and dogs who have had a bad time being groomed before are all welcome. If you are not sure whether your dog will settle, say so when you book and the appointment gets more time.

What happens in the two hours

Every appointment starts with a look at the coat and a few quiet minutes on the table so your dog can settle before anything gets wet. If they need to stop for a bit, they stop.

Baths

A warm bath with a shampoo picked for the coat. Oatmeal and medicated baths are here too when your dog's skin is sore or itchy, and the blowout runs at a temperature they can stand.

Haircuts

A breed cut, or something drawn up with you at the door. Scissor work on faces and feet, and Claire will tell you how the coat grows back and how long the shape will hold.

Hand stripping

Terrier coats are stripped by hand rather than clipped, which keeps the colour and the texture of the coat right. It takes longer, and it is what those coats are for.

Baths, haircuts and paws

Three jobs come up most weeks, and each one is done the way the coat needs it.

Baths and blowouts

Warm water, a shampoo matched to the coat and a slow blowout by hand. Oatmeal and medicated baths for dogs with sore or itchy skin.

Breed and custom haircuts

A poodle pattern, a schnauzer face or a short summer clip. You get a look at the shape before Claire starts, and she will say what the coat will do.

Nails and paw care

Nails trimmed and filed, pads checked and the hair between the toes tidied. Dogs who hate having their feet touched are fine here.

Daycare while you run errands

Some dogs stay for a few hours after their groom while their person is in town. They are in the same quiet room, with the door open onto the yard, and there is a walk round the block when the weather is decent.

Senior dogs and dogs who find this hard

Older dogs get as long as they need, a break whenever they ask for one, and a low table so nobody has to be lifted about. They can be booked for a morning, when the studio is quietest.

If your dog has been difficult to groom anywhere else, say so when you get in touch and Claire will talk through what happens here first. Handling is Fear Free, so nothing is forced. If your dog has had enough, the appointment stops and you hear about it.
